IT'S OVER!!! Week 12 and Final Results!

Wow. Well, congratulations to all of you losers! We survived. Most of you did a great job and should be looking a little slimmer than you did a few months ago. Hopefully you’ll keep the ball rolling and get to your ideal weight (if you’re not already there) before summer vacation. :)

Great job you guys! According to the contest rules, all of the losers who met their goals will receive back $30 from their original $50 check (minus any fines.)

Taking the third place ribbon and 10% of the total pot is Tracy “The Hammer” Harris, who lost 11.7% of her total body weight in 12 weeks! Way to go, Tracy!!! You did an amazing job – kudos to you for a great contest!


And now the moment we’ve all been waiting for…who is our BIGGEST LOSER???

Well, let me first say how close the race for 1st and 2nd place was. It was neck and neck the last three weeks. The 1st place contestant lost 15.78% and the 2nd place winner lost 15.30%. A VERY close race. Our runner-up this year is Tony “The Builder” Bailey, who really looks like a different person – a fitter, skinnier, and healthier person!! Great job, TB!!! Keep up the running… there’s a half marathon in your future! Tony’s determination and discipline were second only to one person in this contest - Congratulations to our BIGGEST LOSER (drum roll please…) George “The Dominator” Lopez!!! GEORGE, YOU DID IT!!! First place, baby! We’re all in awe of your willpower and resolve! You really have changed your life during this contest. Well done, my friend!


Ahem. Ok now for the bad news.


According to the rules, contestants owe a $5 fine for each week they gained weight and/or failed to report their weight by noon on Saturday. I have made a color-coded official weight-loss spreadsheet which shows in pink the weeks contestants gained weight or missed their official weigh-in. I have emailed individuals how much they owe in fines and have also put this on the official contest spreadsheet.

Here’s the deal. If you owe fines, I need them in my hand by April 18th. Either cash or check. At that point I will take all of the fines, the money added to the pot for those of us who didn’t reach our goals and then calculate the money to be paid out for our 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners (60%, 30%, 10% of the pot, respectively.)

On April 18th, whatever is in the pot is what I am dividing up and mailing out to the winners. And just so everyone understands correctly, I am NOT going to harass people for the next 6 months to pay their $5 fines! However, I will publicly shame you on the website! ;-)

Week # 9 & 10 Results

Spring Break is all but over and I somehow managed to avoid Travis County Fair food (I was 5 feet away from “Fried Snickers”), Sea World cuisine (Shamu Burgers anyone?), and Czech Stop kolaches (mmmmmm!!!!) What determination! What grit! Who’s got the Eye of the Tiger?!! Me, that’s who! I’M BACK, BABY!!!

Sorry I didn’t post last week’s results, but I’m still recovering from taking a 5 year-old and a 2 year-old to Sea World by myself (pity me). However, there WERE some shocking developments from Week 9! Last week Tony “The Builder” Bailey finally moved into 1st place with an impressive 12.75% in total weight lost, breaking George “The Dominator” Lopez at 12.53%. (“I will break you” – Drago, Rocky IV) Wow!!! But wait – this week saw George losing a whopping 1.8% of his total body weight – his biggest loss since week 3 – bringing his new total weight loss to 14.12%, and a recoup of 1st place!!! HOLY COW!!! These last two weeks are gonna be nail biters!!! (and miserable if your last name is Bailey or Lopez). Prunes and lentil soup for 14 days, anyone? Tony or George? George or Tony? Who’s got the “Eye of the Tiger?”



Also, a big shout out to Tony, Sheryl, Tracy, Ann & George for not having to use their Piggy Pass after 10 weeks of this torture! And congrats to Bryan Batson – our newest “Lost Greater than 5%” member, and more kudos to David Manges, who became the sixth contestant to meet his weight loss goal. Way to go, guys!!

Only 2 weeks left! FINISH STRONG!!!

Week #8 Results

Week 8 was a milestone week for many of you losers. Joining the “Greater than 5% Club” this week are Jennifer “Pilates” Miller (5.2%), Jay “Favre Blows” Hardaway (5.3%), and Chris “Frat Boy” Kedroski (5.1%). Way to go, you guys!! Oh, and by the way - congrats to Chris for being the fourth loser to meet his goal in this contest!!! Nice!

Also having a “beastly” week (“beastly” is the new slang the kids are using these days) was none other than Mrs. Crowmissioner, with a startling 2.6% drop in one week! Nice job, wife!

So here’s where we stand with four weeks remaining… there is no way any of you are going to catch George or Tony. So forget 1st or 2nd place. However, 3rd place is wide open! And even if you don’t win the big money, the real winners are those who continue to lose and reach their ideal body weight in time for bikini season!

Week #7 Results

Sorry no blog post last week... I'm on the mend from a cold and still feeling craptastic. Comfort food anyone? =/

I won't try to be all witty and whatnot... but since the last time I posted, two Losers have quiety entered the "Greater Than 10% Club" - way to go, George Lopez and Tony Bailey! You guys are machines!!!

I've uploaded week 7 progress (or lack thereof in my case) on the official spreadsheet. Keep up the good work everyone! Only 5 weeks left!

Week #5 Results

Wow. Five people gained weight this week. Have we all hit the wall or what? In week #1 we lost a collective 83 pounds, in weeks 2 and 3 we lost 42 pounds, last week we lost 21 pounds, and this week we only lost 8 pounds between 21 people. Ouch. I know it’s getting harder and harder to lose those pesky pounds… but come on people! We’re not even halfway there yet!

Let’s all remember how pumped and motivated we were in January to stop being fat asses! Let’s rekindle that “I want to fit in my clothes” desire and stop eating three extra helpings of Tex Mex... Let’s go for a walk instead of watching American Idol on the couch with a bag of cheetos… Let’s eat more apples and broccoli and drink more water for crying out loud! I have a dream… that one day I will like the way my butt looks like in my jeans… I have a dream… that one day my man boobs won’t require an A-cup…I have a dream that one day I’ll be able to see my belt buckle without bending over… I may not get there with you, but I can see the promise land of not having my thighs rub together when I walk. Ahem… sorry, we’re celebrating Black History month at my high school.

But seriously, think how good it’s going to feel in 7 more weeks when you reach your weight loss goal! Tough it out for just a while longer – you can do anything for seven weeks!!! WHO’S WITH ME?

Ok congrats to all of you who were not in need of a pep talk this week! And congratulations to this week’s Biggest Loser - Tony “The Builder” Bailey - who lost another impressive 1.6%, bringing his total percent lost to 9.3%! Way to go, Bailey! George, it appears that you have some competition for first place at 9.9%!! :) Should be an interesting finish. Also, congrats to Tracy “The Hammer” Harris, who made it into the "Greater than Five % Club", at an inspiring 5.4% of total weight loss so far! Woo-hoo!

Week #4 Results

Well, the results are in – another outstanding week for most of you losers! We lost a total combined weight of 21 lbs this week bringing our total weight loss so far to 188 pounds!

Firstly, congrats to the Biggest Loser this week who lost over 2% of his body weight in 7 days – The Crowmissioner! Yeah – that’s right! Yours truly!! Woo-hoo! **stands up and does a funky chicken dance** Ahem. Now that I have most certainly jinxed myself for next week…

Also having exceptionally great weeks and making it into the exclusive "Greater than Five % Club” are our very own Ann “Hot Tamale” Lopez at 6.4% in total weight loss and Jason “Headshot” Hawkins at 5.9% in total weight loss! Way to go, guys! They join fellow big losers Tony “The Builder” Bailey, who posted another 1.6% gone, in addition to up-and-comer Tracy “The Hammer” Harris who posted a 1.5% loss today! Yee-haw!

Also, after this week Ann and Stacy have now become the second and third members of our contest to reach their goals! Congrats - you go, girls!!!

Great job to all of the rest of you who also made steady losses, or who maintained – No shame in maintain, baby!!! And although several Piggy Passes were used this week – we are all collectively headed in the right direction. I attribute the Piggy Pass usage this week to the post-football season blahs… there’s nothing to do anymore but eat.

Believe it or not we are a third of the way there, folks! Are you a third of the way to your goal? Hmmmm? 4 weeks down, 8 to go! Happy carrot-eating everyone! =/

Week #3 Results

Great job guys and gals - we're collectively 42 pounds lighter as a group this week!! (weird - it was exactly 42 pounds last week, too!). That brings our toal weight loss so far to a whopping 167 pounds!! That's like one less person on the planet. NICE!

Posting incredibly strong losses this week were Rachel Forbes (-2.9% in one week!) and David Manges (-3.9% in one week!). Great job you two!! Are we being hustled here? Where were you guys in week 1? ;-)

Continuing to shed pounds like crazy and making it to the "Greater than Five % Club" are our very own George "The Dominator" Lopez (-8.7% total), Tony "The Builder" Bailey (-6.4% total), David "The Hustler" Manges (-6.1%), Nathan "Boomshot" Miller (-5.8% total), and Stacy "The Punisher" Crowe (-5.3% total).

Also, congrats to all of the little victories this week - you know who you are! ;-) Even those of us who "maintained" have something to celebrate. And no piggy passes were used this week - good thing since the Superbowl festivities begin tomorrow. :-0

Week #2 Results

Amazing job everyone! Collectively, we lost another 42 pounds, bringing us to a total of 125 lbs lost in just two weeks!!! That's an average of 6 lbs per contestant! Great job! :)

Making his move in week two is our very own George "The Dominator" Lopez, with another outstanding week's work - bringing his total % lost so far to just over 7.0% and sole possession of first place. Apparently George hasn't eaten anything but twig soup for the past 14 days - but hey, whatever works! ;-) Also, congratulations to George for being the first Loser to reach his goal (by week 2!!! that has to be some kind of record!) Way to go, George!

Close on George's heels and hoping that he can't maintain that insane pace are Tony (5.8%), Nathan (4.8%), Stacy (4.4%), and his wife Ann (4.1%). **psst - hey Ann, start putting butter and whole cheese in all of George's meals ** :)

Good job to all the rest of you who kept the pounds off this week! Only 10 weeks to go!!

Week #1 Results

Nice work everyone - no piggy passes were used this week. In fact, we all contributed to a group loss of 83 combined pounds for week #1 !!! :-)

Making an incredibly strong start out of the gates this week was Nathan Miller who lost a whopping 4.2% of his total body weight! (His disbelieving wife made him get on the scale 5 different times throughout the morning to confirm this! Ha!) That puts him over half way to his goal already! Great job, Nate!

Also showing strong losses this week were George Lopez (-3.9%), Ann Lopez (-3.6%), Stacy Crowe (-3.4%), Jay Hardaway (-3.4%), Lindsay Hardaway (-3.3%), and Tony Bailey (-2.7%).

Don't get too discouraged if you didn't drop as many pounds as these big losers did - the key is slow and steady weight loss; that's the trick to losing it permanently! (or at least until 2011 when we do this contest again :P)

For those of you interested... I came across this cool website: www.nutridiary.com where you can keep up with a food journal, water intake, exercise schedule, and print reports like the one below:

Pretty cool if you like to see your weight loss progress in the form of a line graph. I found it motivating when I used it this last summer! It's free and easy to use. Warning: can be time consuming to enter your foods - I just use it for exercise and weight reports.

New Rules

Ok - based on the polling data, we will make the following adjustments to our weight loss contest rules:

1. Payout will divided among the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners (60%,30%,10%)
2. You must weigh-in naked each week (I threw that one in as a joke, btw)
3. Reporting tenths of a pound will be left up to the individual - tenths of a pound for digital scale users, nearest pound for "old-school" scale users.

Welcome to the "Biggest Loser" Contest version 2.0!!!

(Yes, we're fat again)

Welcome!! Glad you decided to join us in our goal to lose some weight this year! Posted below are the rules of the competition - but here's the jist: All family, friends, and friends-of-friends are welcome to join, the contest lasts about 3 months, you choose the amount of weight you want to lose, you email your losses/gains each week, the "Crowmissioner" will post your weekly losses online (not your actual weight), the entry is $50.00, and the winner is determined by greatest % of weight lost! That's it! So... are you up for the challenge? Could YOU be the biggest loser?!!

Contest Time Frame: January 10, 2009 - April 4, 2009 (12 Weeks)

The Rules:

1. Entry form and fee must be mailed & postmarked no later than Friday, January 9th, 2009 (YES, THAT MEANS THIS FRIDAY - the actual competition begins on Saturday, Jan.10). A check for $50 per contestant must be made out to Jeff Crowe and submitted with the entry form. Contestants will set a realistic target weight loss goal for themselves (10 lbs, 15 lbs, 20 lbs, whatever). You are encouraged to set your goal as high as possible, but it MUST be at least 5% of your current total body weight.

2. There will be weekly weigh-ins and these will be on Saturday mornings. You may use whatever scale you have in your home for the weigh-ins, but you must use the same scale throughout the competition.

3. If a contestant loses weight during the weekly weigh-in or maintains their current weight, the contestant is free and clear that week. However, if a contestant GAINS weight for the week, they owe a $5 penalty fee that will go into the overall winning pot.

4. Each contestant will receive a "Piggy Pass" that may be used at anytime during the 12 week competition. This pass can be used if the contestant gains weight for the week and the contestant will owe no penalty fee.

5. You must have someone else in your household verify the original weigh-in and certify the validity of your weekly weigh-ins. Weekly weigh-ins must be given via email crowej@friscoisd.org or text/phone call 469-644-3211 to the Crowmissioner by noon EVERY Saturday. If the weigh-in is not communicated by noon on Saturday, the Crowmissioner will automatically use the contestant's Piggy Pass. If the Piggy Pass has already been used, a penalty fee of $5 will be assessed to that contestant.

6. The original weight of the contestant will remain confidential and will only be shared with the Crowmissioner. Results during the competition will only show if the contestant gained or lost weight for the week.

7. Winning the competition - Contestants will pay an entry fee of $50. If the target weight loss goal is met, the contestant will receive back $30. If the target weight loss goal is not met, the entire entry fee will go into the winning pot. The Contestant that loses the the highest PERCENTAGE of body weight during the contest wins whatever is in the pot at the end of the competition (plus fees & lost entries). In case of a tie for the highest percentage of body weight lost, the contestant with the fewest weekly "fines" would win the tiebreaker. If the contestants have an equal number of fines, they will split the pot.
